Buyer's guide

COB vs SMD LED: which is right for you?

SMD (Surface-Mounted Device) is the proven, cost-effective standard for most indoor and outdoor screens. COB (Chip-on-Board) mounts the LED chips directly on the board under a protective layer — ideal when people stand close or might touch the screen.

  • Choose COB for boardrooms, control rooms, retail at touch height and pitches under P1.5.
  • Choose SMD for larger pitches, outdoor billboards, rental and budget-sensitive projects.
  • Not sure? We'll recommend the right option after a free site assessment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What pixel pitch do I need?

A simple rule: the minimum comfortable viewing distance in metres is roughly equal to the pixel pitch in millimetres (P2.5 ≈ 2.5 m). For best image quality, viewers should be 2–3× that distance. Use the calculator above or ask us for a recommendation.

What is the difference between COB and SMD LED?

COB (Chip-on-Board) seals the LED chips under a protective layer, giving better durability, deeper blacks and finer pitches. SMD is the established, more affordable technology suitable for most screens. See our comparison above.

How long does an LED screen last?

Quality LED displays are rated for around 100,000 hours to half brightness — many years of daily operation when properly installed and ventilated.

Do you handle installation?

Yes. We provide site surveys, steel structures, electrical work, installation, calibration and content setup. Contact us with your location to confirm coverage.

How is content updated on the screen?

Content is managed from a computer or phone through cloud software, USB or a local network. You can schedule videos, images, text and live feeds by day and time.

What warranty do you provide?

All displays include a manufacturer warranty (typically 2–3 years) plus spare modules shipped with each order. Extended warranty and maintenance plans are available.

Can I rent an LED screen instead of buying?

Yes — rental LED walls are available for events, exhibitions and short-term campaigns, including delivery, setup and an on-site technician.
